Math Education Sucks the Same Way TV Sitcoms suck
Fascinating observation from Dan Meyer at TED. Bonus: shout-out to the iPhone as a cheap & easy way to produce compelling video to fix the math education problem.
Musings on Security, Identity, Privacy, Risk, Movies, and Culture. And nice red uniforms.

Great find Bob - I wish I had time to just sit and watch TED presentations all day!
Now to think about how I'll use this in an algorithms or crypto class....
Interesting! Funny (or not) but this is how I learned in school. We were not taught to the test, we were taught to think and problem-solve. My Physics teacher would come in early to set up labs for us to do. He was later reduced to teaching General Science to kids who didn't want to be there, then he quit teaching all together to sell real estate. Very sad, yes.
I hope we can get back to teaching kids how to think instead of spoon-feeding them to pass the standardized tests, and no more.
